INRTODUCTION TO VIDEO (FINAL CUT EXPRESS)


Class Description:

This class is an introduction to basic professional video recording and editing. It covers the basics of lighting, use of cameras, capturing and editing video in Final Cut and exporting video projects for the web and DVD. It's a great starting point for anyone wanting to learn about making music or corporate videos.

Class Syllabus:


Class 1 – Introduction to video production and overview of class. Current state of the industry and assessment of students’ interest and experience.

Class 2- Cameras – Examine cameras, formats, form factors, and usage. We’ll cover manual settings, stabilization, framing, composition, and capture basics.

Class 3- Lighting, sound. – An introduction to location lighting and sound. We’ll cover the basics of 3 point lighting for interview as well as how to get the best of natural light and when to use artificial lighting. We’ll also cover on site sound recording an getting the best natural sound.

Class 4 – Shoot day. – We will shoot an actual subject for interview and music performance. This will be a practical application of Classes 1-3.

Class 5 – Capture, editing – This will be an intro to capturing and editing in Final Cut. We will actually capture the video from shoot day and go over basic edit techniques and tips.

Class 6- Post production. – We will cover rendering formats, post processing, and practical delivery methods. Topics will include youtube and flash embedding techniques as well as how to get your video seen on the internet.

Class 7- Video Business – We will talk about the video business, what jobs or opportunities are out there and how to explore your interest in making money with video, how srart a business with video and practical tips for running a video business.

Class 8- Recap, exam and viewing day – We will view the class projects and recap what we’ve learned. Final exam.
