Commercial Music Production
Description
This class teaches the basic music skills that any music producer should know. Understand important musical terms such as tempo, time signature and the key that the song is in. This class will feature lots of in-class recording and music creation featuring guest musicians.
Syllabus
1. Introduction to music theory. Using theory to produce and relate to other artists in a working studio environment.
2. Rhythm. Beats and popular rhythms for rock/pop/hip-hop and more.
3. Notes and intervals. Basslines and how to use intervals to hear what’s happening in your favorite music.
4. Scales and how to use them to create melodies.
5. Chords. Using intervals and scales to create chords.
6. Chord progressions. How to identify common chord progressions and use them in your own music.
7. Listening to projects and reviewing for the final exam.
8. Final exam.
